Brant Mackley Gallery shares our Santa Fe location with Obscura Gallery which represents the finest contributions to the history of photography through both contemporary and vintage works. Together, the two offer a unique, deeply-layered, and intertwined gallery experience.
Our space harkens back to Alfred Stieglitz’s Gallery 291 from 1905 to 1917 (referring to 291 Fifth Avenue in New York City). Stieglitz’s intention with this gallery was to bring art photography to the same stature in America as painting and sculpture by using this space to introduce to the United States some of the most avant-garde European artists of the time as well as antique tribal and Native American art.
